The Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) is a very demanding system for any business either large or small. To date most experience with REACH was built up within larger companies, because it is these companies that supply the chemicals in the larger volume bands. It is likely that the 2018 registration wave will be a different story. As this deadline is dealing with the lower more specialty volumes, and therefore will inevitably include many more of the functional ‘specialty’ chemicals, more chemicals may be involved with incomplete knowledge or even largely unknown properties; also, far more SMEs will be registering substances.

It remains to be seen how the overall SME-landscape in the chemical sector will look like after the third final deadline for registration in 2018 and this presentation will look at the likely effect on the adhesives and sealants industry and SME’s in particular.
