In recent years, matt appearance is a growing tendency in the coatings market. In wood flooring and furniture, a matt surface makes wood look more “natural” or “uncoated”, this is highly valued in the European market. In plastic surfaces, for example for automotive interiors, a glossy appearance is often perceived by customers as “low grade”, while matt surfaces give a feeling of higher quality.

Traditional matting agents used in the coatings industry, such as waxes and silicas, have some drawbacks like undesired effect on rheology or poor scratch resistance. Stahl’s new generation of matting binders, represented by Relca® PD-805, has been developed with the objective of overcoming these handicaps.
