Research activities with applications in the medical field are presented: i) an overview on the development of affinity sensors and biosensors for point-of-care diagnostics; ii) The design and fabrication of ultra-fast heterostructured scintillators for a more powerful time-of-flight PET, a clinical imaging technique, used for the diagnosis of cancer and neurological disorders.
