The Laponite range of additives is perhaps best known for its rheology modification properties in aqueous based formulations, enabling the formulator to exploit the extremely shear-thinning and thixotropic properties of these products to provide effective suspension, application viscosity and storage stability in formulations that range from high viscosity gels that can be sprayed to pourable liquids capable of suspending particulates.

Laponite also provides synergistic interactions with a variety of polymer co-thickeners to maximise cost, efficiency and performance.

In addition to these properties Laponite also offers several less well-known benefits that can be utilised in many different formulations alongside traditional rheology modification, one example is their use as Pickering emulsion stabilisers.

Pickering emulsions are an alternative to surfactant-stabilised emulsions, using solid particles only to provide stabilisation and rheology.
