Stage 2 – Hygiene effect with MIT removal – Parmetol BPX & Grotan BA21

The EU has classified mixtures containing MIT as skin sensitising according to category 1A and has therefore defined a new substance-specific concentration limit of 15ppm for this class of substances. The new lower limit will apply to paints, lacquers, adhesives and construction chemicals effective 1st May 2020. As of that date, any mixture that contains MIT with a concentration of 15ppm must be labelled with the hazard statement H317 “Can cause allergic skin reactions”. Most customers now want to remove MIT as the new threshold level provides no real efficiency. As customers search for MIT-free products we are delighted to offer Parmetol BPX and Grotan BA21 with the added bonus of the “X-Hygiene concept.” Both products contain an amine that when used at the start of the mixing process can give you added security from pre-contaminated process water. The amine has a quick kill effect and can disinfect the water before the rest of the paint raw materials are added.

Parmetol BPX is a synergistic combination of phenoxyethanol, butylbenzisothiazolone (BBIT) and bis(3-aminopropyl)dodecylamine (BDA). Grotan BA21 is combination of 1,2-Benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one (BIT) & (BDA) Vink Chemicals generally recommends a dosage of 0.5 to 1.0% for Parmetol BPX and 0.05 to 0.4% for Grotan BA21.

The exact dosage should be determined in tests for sufficient preservation by Vink’s application technology department.
